Amy Garcia Amy is an accomplished and dynamic presenter with over 10 years experience in front of the camera. Since her first TV series at the age of 18 on ITV, she has racked up over 5000 hours of Live TV and is a wiz with auto cue, talkback and adlibbing through sticky live situations! Amy has worked with most of the major UK TV channels and currently anchors the lunchtime news for BBC Look North, Yorkshire. As a qualified broadcast journalist she also writes and presents the 3pm & 8pm news updates as well as reporting live on location, and producing news packages. Since joining the news team in 2009, Amy has fronted 'Children in Need' for three consecutive years- the largest outside broadcast in the region as well as 'Frankeinstein's Wedding - Live at Leeds' broadcast on BBC3. Prior to her life as a TV journalist, Amy worked predominantly in lifestyle and light entertainment. She spent two summers filming travel and property shows 'The Real' and 'Around the world' for SKY which sent her overseas to explore real estate and meet Brits who had taken the plunge to live abroad. Other credits include 'FYC' a movie review series for SKY, 'Rock Rivals' for ITV1 and 'A Bobby Robson Golf classic' filmed in Portugal for SKY Sports 1 & 2. She also fronted a weekly magazine show 'Room 785' for BFBS TV for two years. Amy's never one to shy away form a challenge. Ten years after leaving school, she decided to go back to do an MA in TV Journalism (BJTC accredited) at Goldsmiths University of London (2009). She was close to quitting on several occasions but passed with Distinction despite not having a first degree. In the Corporate sector Amy has worked at exhibitions delivering presentations for Global clients such as Sony, Canon, Volts Wagon, Suzuki, BBC food show, MTV, SKY Sports and Levis. She also regularly fronts road shows, award evenings and Press launches. Amy is a peoples person and a natural at crowd pulling and audience interaction. Amy is half Spanish and originally from Yorkshire. As a teenager she toured with a number of shows with the National Youth Music Theatre and after completing her A levels set out on her professional career in Entertainment. At 18, she travelled in style aboard a P&O world cruise for 6 months where she worked as a singer. She then ditched the sequins and moved to London for her first presenting role and has lived in the capital ever since. Her first 3 years in front of the camera were in Children's TV fronting shows for CITV, CBBC and The Disney Channel. Amy loves travelling which has seen her diving with sharks in the Caribbean, sliding down waterfalls in the rain forest, swimming with dolphins in the South pacific and riding a horse bare back through the lost city in Petra. She has also spent time in the rural village of Kisumo in Kenya working with local children as part of the African connection charity programme- a non profit charity which her mother founded 6 years ago and now supports over 90 children. Amy speaks spanish and her hobbies include skiing, diving, cooking, keep fit and shopping. She also has an eye for interior design and has an unhealthy habit of reupholstering more than necessary! Amy is someone who loves her job. Her enthusiasm, professionalism and capability is reflected in her track record of quality work. Her motto for life is 'Enjoy it because you're a long time dead!'
