Bruce Forsyth The legendary Bruce Forsyth began his remarkable career at the age of fourteen performing his own song and dance routines. Having spotted him in 1958, agent Billy Marsh put Bruce’s name forward to compere the nation’s most popular TV programme, BBC’s Sunday Night at the London Palladium. Bruce became an overnight success and the first of his many catch phrases - “I’m in Charge” - was on the lips of the entire nation. As the consummate professional, Bruce has personally compered and appeared in no less than 12 Royal Variety Shows, even including one as a double act with a new ‘partner’, HRH Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales. Bruce Forsyth was born in Edmonton, North London. His family owned a car repair garage and his mother was a keen singer. After watching Fred Astaire films from a young age he trained in dance and started his career in showbusiness when he was fourteen. Forsyth continued to perform thoroughout World War II travelling the UK working seven days a week. He became a celebrity in the late 1950’s when an appearance with the comedian Dickie Henderson led to him being offered the job of compere on the weekly TV Variety Show ‘Sunday Night at the London Palladium’. After that the rest was history! Bruce is a huge fan of ‘The Rat Pack’ and he first met them all when they performed at the London Palladium. Throughout his career he has paid tribute to their talents. There is a bronze sculpture of Bruce which was created by his son-in-law standing in the Cinderella Bar of the London Palladium. In his spare time Bruce loves nothing more than to play a round of golf. Billy Marsh Associates Homepage
