Michelle Ackerley After graduating from Manchester University with a degree in Psychology, Michelle followed her dream of working in Television. Starting at work experience level she quickly moved up through the ranks to Assistant Producer and has worked on a range programmes such as Junior & Celebrity Mastermind, Blue Peter, Beat The Boss, A Question of Sport and HardSpell. Michelle has an inquisitive mind and loves to research into new and unusual topics. From working on programmes such as Mastermind she has had the challenge of bringing a wealth subjects to life - from The Philosophy of Existentialism & The History of Metal Mining to The adventures of TinTin! She is extremely creative and has a passion for fashion and art. Whilst working within production in 2010 Michelle attended on open audition within CBBC for the hunt for a new presenter. She was picked out of hundreds to present on a new series called Deadly Art. This has been a real success within CBBC, where Michelle, along with a team of other artists is set the challenge of creating weird and wonderful art inspired by the Deadly 60 presenter Steve Backshall. The show also incorporates 'Deadly Days out' where Michelle speaks live to hundreds of children at various festival sites around the country and teaches them how to draw. Off the back of Deadly Art, she was quickly approached to present new CBBC show 'I Want My Own Room.' On each episode Michelle is given the task of completely transforming a space – be it a bedroom, living room, outdoor area – solely for the child's enjoyment. Michelle has a natural on screen rapport with children / young adults and has been able to use her creativity and imagination to design some fantastic, new and innovative spaces for children to use. From a rehearsal room complete with a sound proof recording studio, to an arts and crafts den with their very own animation workshop – to building a dance studio from scratch in a back garden! She is involved in a new CBBC online Learning campaign to encourage children to get creative and teach them how to design and make crafts. Michelle is multi faceted. She loves to generate new programme ideas and has worked extensively within development during her television career both in adult and children's programming. She is also an experienced script writer, editor and self shooter. Michelle has a real desire to connect with the youth of today. She is a diversity youth mentor and really enjoys motivating & offering direction to children / teenagers. She is frequently called upon to present online films for the BBC aimed at encouraging youngsters to get involved in the media and think of new career paths. From her background in Psychology Michelle is passionate about subjects such as the changing perception of body image in males and females and body language. Alongside her career in television production Michelle presented for 3 years on a community radio station in Manchester. The show focussed on bringing different cultures together, discussing unusual foods from around the world and interviewing new musical talent from beat boxers to graffiti artists. Michelle has colourful family background and an itch to travel and experience new cultures. She is planning to unearth more about her ancestry by travelling to her homeland Accra in Ghana to meet with relatives she has up to now only seen in old photos. Michelle comes from a family with Nigerian, Ghanian and Western roots. She is extremely interested in factors that surround mixed race families and how they identify with their different nationalities. Family is important to her. Michelle's mother is a life coach and personal trainer. In her spare time Michelle likes to shop, keep fit and listen to music – from the Isley Brothers, Sade to 50 Cent & Led Zeppelin!
