PETER JONES

small star TV career
Peter Jones is everyones' favourite Dragon.

He was first seen on our screens in 2005 when he appeared as one of the panelists on BBC2’s ground-breaking business programme Dragons' Den. Now in its fifth series, this programme continues to grow in popularity and is due to film another series in the New Year.

In 2006 Peter co-created and starred in the programme American Inventor, which was to become an instant hit for America’s largest TV network, ABC. When the show aired on the 16th March 2006, it went straight in as a number one hit show and was ABC’s biggest success for years on a Thursday night. The show was re-commissioned for another series in 2007 and has now been sold to many other countries around the world including France and Russia.

small star Early ambitions
Peter’s business ambitions can be traced back to his early childhood. He spent many an occasion whiling away the hours after school at his father’s place of work, dreaming of entrepreneurial success while sitting in his father’s executive leather chair. He went on to make that dream a reality, building a £200 million business empire by the age of 35.

small star Portfolio
He is Chairman and Chief Executive Office of a portfolio of businesses ranging from telecoms and leisure to publishing, media and recruitment.

The success of this empire is the latest in a long line of achievements for Peter. At the age of 16, after completing the Lawn Tennis Association’s coaching examinations, he set up his first company, a successful tennis academy at a local club. He started his first major business at just 18, providing computers and services to corporate clients.

Failure to insure the business properly led to its collapse when Peter was in his twenties and he lost the trappings of his success. This made Peter even more determined to succeed and to use everything he learnt from this failure to ensure he did not make the same mistakes again.

He started his telecoms business, Phones International, in 1998. The firm experienced explosive growth with revenue totalling £14 million by the end of the first year and £44 million by the end of the second. Group turnover for 2005/2006 was in excess of £180 million. The group counts every leading brand in the wireless communications industry among its business partners, whether as a supplier, customer or collaborator.

In 2003, Phones International Group was recognised as being among the UK’s most successful businesses and was identified as the 13th fastest growing business in the Sunday Times/Virgin Atlantic UK Fast Track League Table. Peter has also received a number of personal accolades. In 2001, he was named as Emerging Entrepreneur of The Year by The Times/Ernst & Young, and was listed 10th in Britain’s top entrepreneurs aged 40 and under by the Daily Telegraph in 2006.

Peter’s first book "Tycoon" was published in 2007 by Hodder & Stoughton, and charted in the Sunday Times Top 10 bestseller list.
