Rolf Harris

Ask the multi-talented Rolf Harris about ambitions held over the years and he’ll tell you that one of the most important has been simply “to entertain”. That’s precisely what he has done, with enormous success and in his own inimitable style, to universal acclaim. In 1973 Rolf played the first ever concert at the Sydney Opera House and, 35 years later, he performed a series of sell-out concerts at the venue in December 2008.

His remarkable music career as well as his writing, presenting and performing, continues unabated on an international scale and ever in demand.

Rolf Harris, artist, musician, singer, TV presenter and entertainer is one of the most loved and respected figures in British showbusiness. He was born in Perth, Australia and moved to England as an art student at the age of 22.

He has been a champion swimmer, has had chart topping hits, written best selling books and has been voted the best entertainer ever, at Glastonbury. He has worked extensively abroad in North America, New Zealand and Australia often appearing with symphony Orchestras at concerts designed to increase the interest of young people in music. In the last eighteen months he has played a record-breaking sell-out season at the Sydney Opera House and made his fourth appearance at the Glastonbury Festival.

He has a CBE and is a Member of the Order of Australia and he has received many entertainment and television industry awards. He is a committed supporter of a number of charities and in 2010 he received an honorary doctorate for his contribution to art and music education.

As an artist, he studied at London’s City & Guilds and also under impressionist Hayward Veal. Rolf has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and he is an Honorary Member of the Royal Society of British Artists. In recent years, through his television programmes, he has broken down many of the barriers and made art more accessible to millions of people. His paintings have been exhibited at the National Gallery and other major galleries throughout the UK and his portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate her 80th birthday was the subject of a BBC One programme The Queen, by Rolf. The portrait was exhibited at the opening of the new Australian National Portrait Gallery, Canberra in December 2008 when he presented the Annual Lecture on Portraiture.
